Lying in the northwestern part of Uganda, this park is Uganda’s largest faunal reserve. This bears the attraction of the famous waterfall from which it derives its name – Murchison Falls.

The basic activities at the park are: gamedrives, nature walks primate tracking, birdwatching, sightseeing and picnicking, spot fishing & launch trips.

The launch trip on the Victoria Nile to the bottom of the Falls is a highlight of the visit. At this point the Nile [longest river in Africa] forces its volume through a rock cleft six (6) metres wide, falling in a spectacular cascade. A return trip from Paraa to the Falls takes three hours.

The riverbanks are lined with big game and some of the largest crocodiles in Africa bask on the Nile shores. Fishing is allowed in the Nile both at the top and bottom of the Falls, nile perch up to 85kg large, tilapia, tiger fish are some of the expected species. Carry your angling equipment.

Most of the park is an open rolling grassland, with areas of Savannah woodland, isolated chimp habitats and riverine forest strips along the Nile.

Once at the Park expect mammals such as: variety of primates, lion, hartebeests, leopard, squirrel, antelope species, hyena, mongoose, elephants and some others. There is a bewildering degree of bird life – ranging from Saddle-Billed Stork, Kingfisher sp., Bee-eaters, Plovers, Heron and many more.

Primate tracking is best at the Rabongo Forest. Guides will help you spot primates like red-tailed monkeys, Olive baboons, black & white Colobus monkey, Patas monkey and occasionally the chimpanzees. Kaniyo Pabidi is the best spot for chimpanzee tracking.

Nature walks will allow you a tremendous and very close approach opportunity with the African flora. Tiny animals will be very closely watched. A trail through to the Top of the Falls will give unlimited photographic opportunities of the Falls in various angles.

Picnicking is ideal at the top of the Falls & the Rabongo Forest.

Bird watching is ideal on the cruise; forest walks and during the game drives. A keen bird watch will point out a variety of species. There is a recorded 450species of birdlife.

Accommodation: there are campsites at the Top of the Falls, Rabongo Forest and Paraa. Cottages are available at Rabongo. Traditional and self contained bandas at the Paraa Rest camp. More luxurious accommodation is also available at Nile safari camp, Sambiya River lodge and Paraa safari Lodge.

By road from Kampala, Paraa is a 4-? hour drive – 2hrs tarmac and 2-? hr on murrum. Roads in the park can be rough and wet thus a recommended use of a 4WD vehicle. The Paraa ferry operates on schedule every 3 hours between the southern and northern bank of the Nile. By air, charter services are available to all weather aerodromes.

There must be something about Queen Elizabeth National Park that makes people drive so far. Space and well-distributed trees welcome you and the lack of pollution – the air is so clean. With its landscape dominated by the snow capped peaks of the mighty Rwenzori range immediately to the north -the famed ‘Mountains of the Moon’ which rise to over 4,950m (16,500ft) – the Queen Elizabeth National Park possesses a character of its own. This Park provides an ultimate feast for all the senses.

This Park lies in extreme Western Uganda between lakes George and Edward. It boasts a remarkable range of ecosystems from grassy plains, broad Savannah, tropical forests, rivers, swamps, lakes, and a zone of volcanic craters {some bearing great beauty with wooded slopes and deep blue or green lakes hidden in their depths} where flamingos congregate.

The Maramagambo Forest, south of the Kazinga Channel, divides the rolling plains of Kigezi ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ from the grasslands of the north. Primate viewing is spectacular in this area. The Ishasha sector bears isolated clumps of trees with lions, which have developed a tree-climbing propensity.

The Chambura Gorge is on the eastern boundary it divides the Park from the reserve.

The Park is quite large but the major tourist circuit is north of the Kazinga Channel. There is a rich diversity of mammal species ranging from primates [Black and white Colobus, rare Red Colobus, Red tailed monkey, Blue monkey, and chimpanzees...], predators [jackal, hyena, leopard, and lions...] antelope species [Uganda Kob, bushbuck, topi, & waterbuck... The Defessa Waterbuck is a common sighting. The males of this specie bear the finest horns in Africa.

The 2-hour launch trip along the Kazinga Channel is an unforgettable experience. It is very rewarding to come within few metres of the buffalo, hippos and exorbitant bird species.

A nature walk is worthwhile for bird lovers. A great variety of sunbirds, bee-eaters, kingfishers should be expected. Chimpanzee tracking in the gorge is memorable too. Foot safari is well recommended in the crater area too. This allows for its sights, sounds, smells and texture to be intimately experienced rather than in the confines of the vehicle

Full hotel accommodation in the Park is available at Mwea Safari Lodge, which was built on a bluff overlooking the two Lakes - George and Edward, the Jacana Safari Lodge, students' Hostel, Savannah ResorUganda - National Parks - Kidepo Valley National Park

National Parks | Useful Links | Tour Packages | Tour Inquiries

This is another of the very unique features possessed by Uganda. It is a very spectacular Park having scenery unsurpassed anywhere in East Africa.

Isolated in the extreme northeastern corner the Kidepo has a vast altitude change. This offers wide climatic conditions, which support diverse flora.

The Park is characterized by open tree Savannah that vary in structure and composition. The landscape is studded with small hills, rocky outcrops and inselbergs from which spectacular views are obtained.

There are two major game viewing loops. These connect the Rest Camp to prime game viewing areas. This is the only Park in Uganda where zebra and giraffe can be viewed together. Interesting game with a very high chance of being viewed includes: lions (which at times climb trees), the rare white buffalo, cheetah, kudu, bush baby, baboon, oryx, elephant and much more.

The Park boasts 465species of birds. Of particular interest are the Ostrich and Kori bustard, which are found nowhere else.

Mount Elgon National Park
Right on the border of Uganda and Kenya lies this mountain, an extinct volcano. There are great caves, gorges and waterfalls that give very stunning scenery. There is abundant bird life, leopard, hyena, civet, baboon, buffalo, elephant and chimpanzees.

The mountains have a gentle slope that does not require mountaineering gear. You will come very close to coffee plantations that are beautifully spread out on the terraced landscape. The bamboo forests that amalgamate with other vegetation enhance all this.

You can get very beautiful pictures from the Sipi falls. Nearby is an old house that used to be a retreat for the historical colonial government.
Cultural dancers, their colorful dress, handicrafts and customary practices all of which are worth seeing will graciously entertain you.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Located on the western Uganda border, the park lies below the Rwenzori Mountains. Nature walks through the foothills will take you a diversity of fsuna. Lately, the park is not so operational. Information about it can be released as soon as the situation is better. Elephant, mongoose, hydrax, and some antelope species are expected here.

Mgahinga National Park

It is the smallest Park but one of the most significant because like Bwindi, it is home to the endangered gorilla.

Lying in southwestern Uganda, this Park is part of the Virunga Conservation area. It adjoins Rwanda’s volcano and the Democratic Republic of Congo’ Virunga National Park.

The park has afromontane vegetation and a cool climate. The bamboo dominates it, which is a delicacy to the gorillas.

Gorillas aside, the park is habitat to buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks, the golden monkeys, jackal, porcupine and many more. There are also unique species of birds – Rwenzori turaco, Crowned Crane and others. Tracking in the park takes 3 – 8 hours.

There are three extinct volcanoes, which offer a good hiking experience to those in good physical health. No specific mountaineering gear is required.

The park is very scenic offering great phonographic opportunities.

There is a wide range of accommodation facilities in Kisoro.

It takes about 8 hours to get to the park from Kampala. Public transport means are also available. Flights can be arranged on Mondays and Fridays from Entebbe to Kisoro.
