It is now a year since life returned to normal in Uganda. But the effects of the covid-19 pandemic are still felt now.

  • Covid-19 vaccination is now among the new travel requirements around the world.
  • Wearing a facemask is now mandatory when trekking gorillas in Uganda.

In 2020, Uganda Gorilla Tourism was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However six months into the lockdown, the primate parks were reopened. Cancellation emails were regularly found in the tour operators’ inboxes from the clients. To make matters worse, some clients requested refunds to utilize their money during this hard time. Many tour operators failed to refund the money while others simply closed business.

Uganda wildlife Authority attempted to attract more tourists by offering discounted gorilla trekking permits and chimpanzee tracking permits but the tourist turns up remained low regardless of the discounted gorilla trekking permits.
