Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Akagera national park
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Upon arrival at Kigali airport, you will be welcomed by our tour representative, have lunch and transfer to Akagera national park in north East of Rwanda(2-3 hrs) drive. Dinner and overnight at Akagera game lodge.
Meal plan: lunch and dinner
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise on Lake Ihema
After breakfast go for morning game drive in the savannah grasslands of Akagera national park to catch up with the early morning risers, drive through the park as you watch many different wild animals like elephants, leopards, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, lions, hyenas among others and so many bird species, reptiles. Return to your lodge for late lunch and relaxation. After go for a boat cruise on lake ihema where you will have chance to see more wild animals like the hippos, crocodiles and many water loving animals on the water banks. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
In the morning after breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe forest national park south of Akagera national park with a beautiful scenic view of tea plantations. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe forest lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
In the morning after breakfast, move to the park headquarters for paperwork and pre trekking briefing by the ranger guides, after embark on a memorable experience of chimpanzee trekking in the Nyungwe forest, for 1-6 hrs depending on how far the chimpanzees are, use one hour for observations, photography and ask questions regarding the chimpanzees before you leave the forest. Return to your lodge for late lunch and relaxation, in the evening you can go for canopy walk on the dense forests of Nyungwe where you view so many bird species and many more animals. Return at day 3 for dinner and overnight stay
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
In the morning after breakfast transfer from Nyungwe forest national park to volcanoes national park north of Rwanda, take a visit at the twin lakes Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at mountain Gorilla view lodge.
Meal plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking and ibyiwacu cultural visit
After early morning breakfast, at exactly 7:00am be at the park headquarters for briefing and paperwork by the ranger guides, before you embark on a breath taking experience of Gorilla trekking. Enter the forest with your packed lunch, enough drinking water and the right trekking gears with nice crafted trekking stick and search the habituated endangered mountain Gorillas for 1-8 hrs depending on how far the primates went the previous night. Use 1 hr for observation and photography before you leave the forest. Return to your lodge for relaxation, after relaxation in the evening go for a cultural visit to the ibyiwacu village and enjoy their cultural dances, learn their life styles and different farming methods as they explain. Return at day 5 for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Dian fossey graveyard visit and transfer back to Kigali airport
In the morning go on a hike between mount karisimbi and Bisoke at karisoke research Centre and visit where Dian fossey the American primatologist was buried. Dian Fossy was killed by the poachers in 1985 because she protected the mountain gorillas. Return to your lodge for lunch and transfer back to Kigali airport for your flight back.
