"

Mgahinga National Park is situated in far southwestern Uganda. Mgahinga National park is partly situated on Mountain Mgahinga from which it derived its name; Mgahinga Gorilla National park. Mountain Mgahinga is found at the boarder of Uganda and Rwanda – when you visit the park, you can view series of Virunga Mountains in Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The park is known for hosting only one but stubborn Gorilla group known as Nyakagezi Group. I call it stubborn because of its acts of migrating from Uganda to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and sometimes to Rwanda.

To trek Nyakagezi gorilla group, you need some high level of fitness because it involves climbing the mountain and sloping to the lowlands. This is because the biggest part is park is mountainous – In Mgahinga National park, you use on stone to kill two birds at the same time. You do mountaineer and see Gorillas at the same time. More so, you can do cultural tour in Batwa community to enjoy music, dance and drama. You will also learn some skills in cooking, hunting, traditional healing among others.

Nyakagezi Gorilla group is unpredictable since it moves freely in the wild- it crosses boarders any time but rangers of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) send advance information about the availability and absence of the Nyakagezi Gorilla group.

If the gorilla group leaves Uganda after trekkers have booked their permits, the Uganda Wildlife Authority always allow trekkers to divert to Bwindi Impenetrable National park. This should not scare visitors from visiting Mgahinga National Park. Many have trekked Nyakagezi Gorilla group successfully so, visitors feel free to book it.

Nyakagezi Gorilla group can be seen in Rwanda and DR. Congo but not official trekking – there is an argument that the group belongs to Uganda – others say, belongs to no country because they are just wild animals.
