Mgahinga National park is among the smallest parks in Uganda. It is situated at the boarder of Rwanda and Uganda comprising of both bamboo and tropical forest.  Mgahinga National Park is found in Kisoro district and the second home to mountain Gorillas in Uganda.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

The park protects one group of Gorillas known as Nyakagezi which is known for moving from Uganda to Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. The fact that Gorillas stay in their natural habitat, there is no way we can limit their movement that is why they are left to move freely from one country to another.

Golden monkey trekking is the second sought for activity after Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park.  Golden monkey prefer staying in bamboo forests to be able to feed on the plant shoots which is their major food stuff.  Golden monkey trekking is much easier in Mgahinga National park because their home range is well known in bamboo section.

It is believed that Nyakagezi Gorilla group is amazing with many young ones and two silverbacks staying in one group which is rare in Bwindi Impenetrable National park.  From Kigali, it is 3-4hours drive to Mgahinga National Park while 8hours drive from Kampala or Entebbe.

Mountaineering services are also offered in Mgahinga National park with Mountain Gahinga climbing and so on. Mountain climbers are advised to come when they are fit enough to be able to reach the Mt. peaks. While in higher elevation, you can view part of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

From Mgahiga National Park, you can easily connect to other parks like Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth national park, Semliki national Park, Mountain Rwenzori national park, Kibale national park and Lake Mburo national park among others. In Rwanda, you can connect to Volcanoes national park and Virunga National Park in Democratic Republic of Congo.
